Gayle Hooks

Gayle Hooks was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, the fourth of five siblings. One of her fondest childhood memories is that of sitting with her grandfather as he read or told stories to her. Later, as a mother, she shared her love for reading and storytelling with her two children. When her children were in school, she taught preschool and again shared her passion for reading and telling make-believe stories.

Today, she enjoys feeding the imagination of her grandchildren with her stories. The love of watching a child's eyes light up with excitement encouraged her to write. For the last four years, Gayle lived in Satellite Beach on Florida's central east coast, one of the beaches up and down the southeast coast of the United States to which many of the over one hundred thousand sea turtles arrive each summer to nest and lay their eggs. This event, occurring almost nightly in her own backyard, allowed her to witness firsthand this wonder of nature. She watched from the edge of the dunes, awestruck by their size, and fell in love with the ritual of these huge turtles returning home to lay their eggs where they were born.
