Reverend (Ted) Bowers

Reverend (Ted) Bowers is a native of Western Pennsylvania.  He is a graduate of Geneva College and Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Commissioned an LTJG in the U.S. Navy Chaplains Corps in 1965, Chaplain Bowers served in the U. S. Navy for 26 years in various leadership capacities.

Commander Bowers was recalled to active duty during the Persian Gulf War and served as Senior Chaplain of Fleet Hospital 15, a 500-bed Combat Zone Hospital stationed outside Al Jubal, Saudi Arabia.  He received service medals from the Defense Department, the Marine Corps, and the Navy including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait service medals and the Navy Commendation Medal for his exemplary ministry to his unit and to the Kuwaitis who had escaped to Saudi Arabia during the Iraqi Invasion.

After returning to his civilian ministry, he continued his study of Islam, lectured, taught classes, and participated in round tables sharing his knowledge of Islam and the culture of the Middle East.

Chaplain Bowers has held State, Regional and National offices in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America. 

His former congregation, Redeemer’s United Church of Christ, Littlestown, Pa honored him by designating him as their Pastor Emeritus.  In 2013 he received the Chapel of Four Chaplains Bronze Medallion Award and in 2016 he was honored with the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Winebrenner Theological Seminary.
